How We Help
L.A.W. 501(c)(3) connects Wisconsin’s corporate and law firm attorneys with local nonprofits in need of transactional and business legal support. By recruiting and mobilizing volunteer attorneys, we help nonprofits strengthen their operations, overcome legal challenges, and maximize their impact in our communities.
L.A.W. 501(c)(3) makes pro bono legal service seamless and effective – matching corporate and law firm attorneys with vetted nonprofit clients, streamlining the volunteer process, and providing ongoing resources and guidance. Our approach ensures that every donated hour of legal expertise facilitates meaningful, lasting change in our community.
Process
We will regularly email our volunteer attorneys available pro bono opportunities, sorted by area of law. Once an attorney expresses interest in a particular matter, an introductory call is scheduled between the attorney volunteer and the client. The attorney volunteer then works with the nonprofit client until the matter is complete.

All matters will be pre-screened, discrete, and generally not time-sensitive. The average project is anticipated to take only 6-10 volunteer hours to complete.
Our promises to you
Volunteer Attorney Support
We support our volunteer attorneys along the way and expect to eventually be able to provide sample forms, template contracts, and other legal references as needed. Volunteer attorneys are covered through L.A.W. 501(c)(3)’s lawyers professional liability insurance policy for legal work provided to L.A.W. 501(c)(3) clients. In addition, as an approved qualified pro bono program, volunteer attorneys earn Wisconsin CLE credits for their pro bono service.
Nonprofit Educational Outreach
In addition to providing direct legal services, we will provide educational outreach, materials, and host seminars for nonprofit leaders regarding relevant legal topics and developments.
No cost for help
With the generosity of Wisconsin corporations, law firms and individual donors, along with the volunteer participation of the broader Wisconsin legal community, there will be no cost to the nonprofit organizations for the legal services provided through L.A.W. 501(c)(3).
